A girl and her truck

Brittany Hudak - Who doesn't love a vintage truck?

My prized possession is my vintage 1978 International Harvester Scout 11 and I really enjoy the opportunity to tune it up. When I was a kid, my dad would take me to classic car shows in our hometown and I learned how much I prefer the older generations of vehicles.

I have an appreciation for classic cars and loved going to car shows. My dad had a couple classics himself so I have always found them to be interesting. I also like things that are unique and original.

My first goal was to get my old car running smoothly. There’s stillwork that needs to be done, but I feel we’re getting closer to a smooth ride from the clunkiness it had before. Once all of that is out of the way, I can really start focusing on the aesthetics and truly make it my own. The overhaul of the car wasn’t entirely my doing; it took a lot of help from my dad to make it a total team effort. While my dad can work on old cars, he's not an expert on everything (despite what he may think), so working on this car and learning from each other is an experience I will never forget.

When I first got the car, it was just my dad and I working on it –I was dating a mechanic at the time and he did a lot of the leg work to make sure it started running smoothly. The car was originally painted a light green/teal color, which I wasn’t really a fan of, so I did a lot of the sanding so that my dad could repaint it. My dad did an amazing job on the paint and I’m proud that I could help him out by preparing for the coats to be laid.
